We have watched four of the following videos in class, and a fifth (Chalmers 2007) is included here.

Do the following two assignments: 1. In these videos, the underlying assumption seems to be that the U.S. is a military-industrial empire, and that our domestic and foreign policies reflect this.

For the thesis: State whether you agree or disagree with this claim.

For the argument: Site examples from the videos which appear to support the claim that the U.S. is a military-industrial empire.

For the assessment: What, in your opinion, would constitute a better world- order politically and economically? Or, is this as good a world-order as is possible? Why?

Submit a printed copy to me in class on Tuesday, and post it on the Blackboard by Tuesday midnight; give two comments by Wed. (midnight); and two replies by Thursday (9 PM).

2. The second assignment is this: On a separate paper, submit answers to the following questions on Tuesday: 1. According to Chalmers Johnson, how many military bases does the U.S. have? 2. Johnson names and describes a few of them, give the names of three of these bases in three different countries. 3. In Sicko, what four countries have socialized health care? 4. According to John Pilger in The War on Democracy and Chalmers Johnson interviews, the U.S. government has been involved in regime changes. Specify five countries, names of the leaders, and dates in which, according to them, such interventions have occurred. 5. According to Life and Debt, how has globalization and borrowing from the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund been detrimental to Jamaica?
