The University of Pittsburgh Philosophy Department. . . . I believe the occasion was the Oct. 1987 Colloquium on Sellarsian Philosophy, which was such a "high" for Wilfrid, who is seated, far left. Next to him is Nick Rescher, then Carl Hempel, Kurt Baier, and Adolf Grunbaum. Since I can't identify everyone among the standees, I will leave you to guess for yourself. Plato would not approve of the copy you hold in your hands, since it is a copy of a reduced copy of a print of a negative, which is itself merely an image of the physical bodies of the philosophers -- but somehow this picture captures at least a fleeting semblance of the spirit of the occasion, which was joyful.
The standees, left to right, are: David Gauthier, John Haugeland, Steve Strange, [Shelley Kagan], Annette Baier, Bob Brandom, Alexander Nehamas, Joe Camp, Nuel Belnap, [Kenneth Manders], Jerry Massey, Richard Gale. (Cynthia Freeland, 1996)
